Ollin Teatro seeks to bring culture and the arts to different audiences in Tlaxcala / @alefrausto @cultura_mx >>>

#SecretaríaDeCultura.- With the aim of bringing theater to different audiences and working with and for the community, recovering local traditions, in 2013 an independent theater group was born in Tlaxcala, which, a year later, adopted the name Ollin Teatro.

This is related in an interview by the company’s stage director Jonathan Muñoz, who recalls that, in that year, the group did not yet have a name, however, they performed the montage Monstruos en el clóset, ogros bajo la cama, by Venezuelan playwright Gustavo Ott, thus marking the beginning of the group.

«It was in 2014 that we sought an identity as such and the name Ollin Teatro arose just to enter the Muestra Estatal de Teatro in Tlaxcala, where we obtained the title not as first place, but as the most finished staging and this was determined by the jury,» he comments.

As part of the recognition, he explains, they received an invitation to present five performances in different communities of Tlaxcala, so they decided to take this first production to the community where they are from, Papalotla de Xicoténcatl, and thus decided that the work of decentralization of the performing arts would be a fundamental part of their work as Ollin Teatro.

These performances, which were also held in San Pablo del Monte, San Francisco Tetlanohcan, Tlaxco and San Lorenzo Axocomanitla, they realized that people did not attend, despite the fact that they were free, and when looking for the reason, they noticed that, for many people, theater is like a product that, if you do not try it, you will not know what it is about. «What we wanted was for people to get closer to the arts and one way to bring them closer was to tell them: get to know, try, taste, and you determine if you continue to enjoy this or not.
