San Miguel de Allende’s municipal government invites to the traditional «Corpus Christi Sale» / @MauricioTrejoP @GobMunicipalSMA >>>

#SanMiguelDeAllende, #Gto.- The expected «Corpus Christi Sale» is already installed from this Friday June 2nd until next Monday June 19th at the Plaza de la Soledad, where families of local artisans offer different varieties of typical Mexican toys, from yoyos, puppets, dexterity games, carts, horses, dolls, «boxers and trapeze artists», tortilla presses and «futbolitos» to little houses, fiddlesticks and guitars, among others.

All the toys are made and decorated «by hand» by San Miguel residents who have passed their talent from generation to generation to make various handicrafts, with materials such as wood, brass, cardboard, tanned leather, clay and cloth, with brightly colored accessories and ornaments.

The «Corpus Christi Sale» is free for all attendees and stimulates the economy of San Miguel families, since the Municipal Administration provided this public space next to the Civic Plaza for this craft expo, since it is one of the best locations for the sale to have constant flow of San Miguel residents and visitors, who have more opportunity to meet, admire and purchase the unique pieces of San Miguel hands. Continuing with President Mauricio Trejo’s mandate to rescue traditions and strengthen the local economy, the Municipality extends an invitation for the entire population of San Miguel, tourists and visitors to attend this craft expo that, year after year, fills the historic center of the Best Heritage City of Mexico with life.

This ancient festivity has its origin in 1699 and, since then, every «Thursday of Corpus» a procession of catholic faithful is carried out through the main streets of the historic center, this year it will take place this coming Thursday, June 8th at 7:00 pm; also a huge canvas is installed representing the famous «Vela de Corpus» that is hung in the main houses; of this tradition with more than 300 years of history there are still vestiges of mesquite wood with its eyelet.
