#BocaDelRío, #Ver.- In the framework of World Oceans Day, the Mayor of Boca del Río, Juan Manuel Unánue Abascal, attended the forum «Encuentro Arrecifal», where he celebrated the initiative of the Municipal Directorate of Environment to promote a discussion and exchange of ideas on a crucial issue for our environment: caring for and protecting our reefs.

«Joining efforts for the conservation of these ecosystems is one of the commitments of my government, as we are clear about their importance, since their diversity is comparable only to that of tropical rainforests and cloud forests,» said the executive.

He emphasized that among the environmental services provided by the reefs are preventing coastal erosion and reducing the force of waves, allowing productive activities of high economic value for the region and tourism in general.

Additionally, they constitute the most effective protection structure against tropical storms and hurricanes, as well as a place for breeding, shelter, feeding and reproduction of many species, mainly of a commercial nature.

Therefore, there is an urgent need to strengthen the tasks of each of the levels of government to implement public policies to protect and conserve our reefs.
