#ISSSTE.- In the framework of International Prostate Cancer Day, which is commemorated on June 11, the Director General of the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (Issste), Pedro Zenteno Santaella, affirmed that the culture of prevention and self-care among male beneficiaries is beginning to bear fruit and there is increasing openness to screening tests and clinical examinations for the timely detection of this disease, the leading cause of oncological death in the male population in the world.

Given that most of the time it does not produce symptoms in early stages, detecting it in time is very important to achieve a cure. «The best medicine against this pathology is for male patients to get into the habit of undergoing periodic prostate antigen blood tests and to visit our medical units for an annual medical checkup, clinical evaluation and, if necessary, a rectal examination or ultrasound,» he said.

The specialist in charge of the Urology Department at the Hospital Regional «Gral. Ignacio Zaragoza», Juan Manuel Ramírez Pedraza, pointed out that «prostate cancer has a great impact on public health».

In Issste, he pointed out, the 2022 Financial and Actuarial Report https://goo.su/x7KQzh states that in 2021 Issste provided treatment to 98,42 patients of both sexes with different types of cáncer, of which prostate cancer accounted for 12.8 percent.
