#IMSS.- The digital system bancodesangre.imss.gob.mx of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) has registered 100,200 appointments for donation so far in 2023, generated in the Blood Banks of the National Medical Centers (CMN) La Raza and Siglo XXI, of which 80 percent were effective donations; that is, 80,160 people donated a unit of blood compound.

Within the framework of World Blood Donor Day, which is commemorated this June 14, the coordinator of Social Work Programs in High Specialty Medical Units (UMAE), Erika Velázquez Becerril, pointed out that through this system, the CMN La Raza Blood Bank has kept a count of nearly 51,000 appointments.

She added that the CMN Siglo XXI Blood Bank has registered 49,200 appointments so far this year, which has shown that this innovation has made it easier for patients and their families to schedule donations, as well as to maintain sufficient supplies and achieve timely access to transfusions.

Velázquez Becerril explained that donating helps women with obstetric complications, pediatric oncology patients or people with severe trauma who require blood transfusions.

«The importance is to help people who need it by having blood for everyone, blood for all our medical units, to be able to donate blood in solidarity, which is a component that cannot be replenished in any other way,» she said.

He pointed out that only in the Blood Bank of CMN La Raza during 2023 20 thousand liters have been obtained; approximately 34 thousand people have made an effective donation.
