#GobiernoDeMéxico.- The new free textbooks for basic education were prepared by specialists, pedagogues and classroom teachers; the contents unite scientific and humanistic visions, so families can trust in the quality of this effort led by the Ministry of Public Education, said President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
«To tell people that there is nothing to fear, not to worry; the books are very well done by specialists, pedagogues, but, above all, teachers participated, it was a whole process. The guidelines were made known and then the elaboration of the books and we have to wait for them to be known,» he said.

In a morning press conference, he pointed out that the contents respond to Mexico’s new reality.

«It took us time because it is a work of elaboration in which many specialists participated until we had the books and, of course, they can be perfectible, but they are well done, their contents are very good and the purpose is to have a scientific and, at the same time, humanistic education,» he said.

The President clarified that the new contents are not ideological, partisan or political.

«Imagine the contents of the first grade, second grade, third grade, there is no way that they talk -as they say- about communism. These are exaggerations and there is a book for teachers that talks about the history of the social movements in Mexico that used to be hidden and now they talk about the dirty war, the repression of 1968, all this, but it is for teachers and, besides, why hide reality? It’s not like we were living back then when the authoritarian regime had control of all the media,» he explained.
