Unprecedented joint operation concludes in Carbondale, Illinois, by the Mexican consulates in Indianapolis, Kansas City and Chicago / @aliciabarcena @SRE_mx >>>

#SRE.- For the first time, the Mexican Consulates in Indianapolis and Kansas City and the Consulate General of Mexico in Chicago joined forces to serve the Mexican community in the Carbondale, Illinois area with a Joint Mobile Operation that traveled to the area during the week of August 1-6, 2023.

Carbondale is located in southern Illinois, in an area that borders the states of Kentucky and Missouri to the south, as well as Indiana to the east. This region has a large presence of Mexican farm workers, many of whom belong to indigenous communities, especially Purepecha from Michoacan.

During its visit to Carbondale, the Operativo Móvil Conjunto served more than 1,000 people who processed documents such as passports, consular registrations and voting credentials.

The Consul of Mexico in Indianapolis, Leticia Maki Teramoto Sakamoto, the Consul of Mexico in Kansas City, Soileh Padilla Mayer, and the Consul General of Mexico in Chicago, Reyna Torres Mendivil, visited farm workers and held meetings with local authorities, including the Chief of Police of Carbondale, as well as the Sheriff of Jackson County.

The Chicago Consulate General’s Protection team visited Mexican detainees in correctional facilities in Vienna, Shawnee and Big Muddy River to provide consular guidance and assistance.
