#SICT.- If you are going on a trip during this summer vacation period, the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) reminds you that the use of cell phones while driving has become the main cause of road accidents.

The SICT carries out various actions to improve physical and operational conditions on the country’s highways, including improving infrastructure and the national road safety campaign: «Carretera segura 2023» (Safe Road 2023).

The purpose is to guarantee safety on federal highways, as well as to generate road awareness among drivers in order to avoid accidents and protect the people who drive on them.

Among the main risk factors when driving are the use of cell phones to answer a call or send a text message while driving.

Driving at excessive speed or under the influence of alcohol are other causes, as well as the non-use of seat belts by the occupants of the vehicle.
