Third Intersecretarial Meeting of the Commission for Follow-up on CEDAW Observations is held / @aliciabarcena @SRE_mx >>>

#SRE.- This Tuesday, the Third Inter-Ministerial Meeting of the Follow-up Commission on the Observations of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW Commission) was held at the facilities of the National Women’s Institute (Inmujeres).

The CEDAW Commission, created in 2018, is coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) and Inmujeres. This Commission serves as a mechanism for coordination and cooperation between national institutions, which seeks to contribute to the follow-up of the observations issued by the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW Committee) to Mexico.

This Commission is made up of six thematic roundtables that address the following issues: Access to and procurement of justice; Gender violence against women; Sexual and reproductive health; Labor equality; Education and Attention to structural problems, and economic empowerment.

The meeting was chaired by the President of Inmujeres, Nadine Gasman Zylbermann, and by the Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights, Joel Hernández García, as well as by the head of the General Directorate for Human Rights and Democracy, Roberto De León Huerta, both from the SRE. More than 26 member institutions of the Commission participated in the meeting.

The event included the presentation of the CEDAW Commission’s 2022 work report, which highlights achievements such as the creation of a model for the criminal definition of femicide, which seeks to serve as a guide and parameter to establish the minimum normative elements for the protection of women’s human rights that must be established in the design of this criminal definition. This model responds to the recommendations issued by the CEDAW Committee to Mexico in 2018 in the framework of the substantiation of the IX Periodic Report.
