#GobiernoDeMéxico.- President Andrés Manuel López Obrador officially announced that 2024 will be the year of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, who stood out for defending the rights of the indigenous people. In a morning press conference, the president confirmed his attendance to Motul on January 3, 2024 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of the man who was governor of Yucatán from 1922 to 1924.
He will also visit Veracruz on January 7 to remember the 1907 workers who started the Rio Blanco Strike.
The Chief Executive affirmed that Mexican Humanism, the ideological model of the Government of the Fourth Transformation, is inspired by the history and cultural greatness of Mexico, as well as the teachings of exemplary leaders, social fighters and exceptional characters of national history.
«I believe that we are heirs of great civilizations; that civilization was not brought to us by the Europeans, that we inherited customs, traditions, social organization that come from far away, from thousands of years ago, from the mother culture, from the Olmec culture,» he said.
In the Treasury Hall of the National Palace, he highlighted that Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, José María Morelos y Pavón, Benito Juárez, Francisco I. Madero, Francisco Villa and Lázaro Cárdenas, among others, acted for the benefit of the people.
