#SEP.- The Secretary of Public Education, Leticia Ramírez Amaya, informed that 24 million 93 thousand 801 students and one million 223 thousand 387 teachers from 229 thousand 379 public and private pre-school, primary and secondary schools started this Monday the 2023-2024 school year.

Within the framework of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s morning conference, the head of the SEP indicated that 95.6 million copies of the new family of Free Textbooks (LTG) were distributed throughout the country to be delivered from the first day of activities.

He specified that in the states of Chihuahua and Coahuila LTG will not be delivered, since the governors María Eugenia Campos Galván and Miguel Ángel Riquelme Solís, respectively, filed a constitutional controversy to prevent their distribution, and that the minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), Luis María Aguilar Morales, determined that the educational materials will not be distributed.

Likewise, he informed that in the states of Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, Querétaro and Yucatán, the learning communities, that is, mothers, fathers, families and teachers, will determine whether to use the new educational materials.

He emphasized that SEP has no legal impediment to comply with the delivery of the LTGs and ensure the provision of educational services under a humanistic, scientific, multicultural and inclusive perspective that recognizes the professional autonomy of teachers, and the participation of parents and families.
