State of Guerrero at the forefront of global tourism sustainability initiatives created by UNWTO / @EvelynSalgadoP @Gob_Guerrero >>>

#EstadoDeGuerrero.- At the Sustainable and Social Tourism Summit, the government of Guerrero is at the forefront of global tourism initiatives in terms of sustainability, an event led by Dirk Glasesser, Director of Sustainability of the World Tourism Organization, and Fernando Mandri Bellot, President of Sustainable & Social Tourism SUMMIT.

As part of the One Planet Sustainable Tourism Program of the United Nations (UN), through the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the government headed by Evelyn Salgado Pineda has managed to adhere to the Glasgow Declaration, which represents a catalyst for greater urgency on the need to accelerate climate action in tourism, ensure actions and firm commitments to support the global goals of halving polluting emissions over the next decade and achieve net zero emissions as soon as possible, prior to the year 2050.

The impacts of climate change are most acutely felt by vulnerable and underrepresented groups, such as women, indigenous communities and people living with disabilities. A just and inclusive transformation of tourism must prioritize their voices and needs, as well as those of younger generations who will otherwise pay the price of inaction.

So far, worldwide, more than 450 public, private and civil society organizations have signed this declaration; it is important to highlight that Guerrero is one of the few states in Mexico that have taken this important step.

The Secretary of Tourism of Guerrero, Santos Ramirez Cuevas, made the commitment with the UNWTO to apply the International Code for the Protection of Tourists (ICPT), which provides minimum standards on the protection of tourists in emergency situations, as well as to respect their rights.
