#GobiernoDeMéxico.- President Andrés Manuel López Obrador affirmed that the Mayan Train is «quite an event» in the southeast of the country, after confirming the most recent advances of the work during his trip on board, from Campeche to Quintana Roo, last weekend.
«People came out of the towns, even at night you could see the little lights, all the families, because it is quite an event. When was the last time a passenger train was seen in the southeast? Well, many young people had never seen a passenger train and we are not talking about just any train», he stressed.
«It is a first class train and I want everyone to get on it and that everyone, or those who can, most of them, can share this extraordinary, unique experience; these are works for our people,» he added in a morning press conference. The President reiterated that the Mayan Train is modernity forged from below and for everyone because it connects remote communities and enhances the cultural greatness of Chiapas, Campeche, Tabasco, Yucatan and Quintana Roo, states that did not receive public investment during the neoliberal period.
«For the southeast it is a good project. It is not only for the short term, we must think of the new generations (…) This means benefits for many people, for the most forgotten, the poorest, the most marginalized. It is to produce, to create wealth, but to distribute wealth and tourism helps a lot with that», he remarked.
The director of Alstom Mexico, Maite Ramos Gómez, reported that the dynamic supervision tests of the first convoy of the Mayan Train were successful. The validation program, she said, included sections 2, 3 and 4, which represented more than 1,000 kilometers of travel. Between Friday, September 1 and Saturday, September 2, the Xiinbal model -a standard four-car train- was tested for traction and braking at low-medium speed, as well as for railway dynamics with passengers.
