#GobiernoDeMéxico.- Meeting for a fraternal neighborhood with well-being will be the name of the meeting of eleven heads of state and foreign ministers from Latin America, Central America and the Caribbean to be held on Sunday, October 22 in the archeological zone of Palenque, Chiapas, with the objective of finding joint solutions to the increase in the migratory flow, announced President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
«It is going to be very good because we have to reach agreements, we can achieve it among all of us, to attend to the migratory phenomenon respecting human rights, giving options, protecting migrants. We are very concerned not only that there are more and more of them, but also that they run many risks,» he stressed.

In a morning press conference, the President confirmed the attendance of the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro. Likewise, the president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro and the presidents of: Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso; El Salvador, Nayib Bukele; Guatemala, Alejandro Giammattei; Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro; Haiti, Ariel Henry; Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel; Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chaves and Panama, Laurentino Cortizo, as well as the prime minister of Belize, Johnny Briceño.

The meeting raised the need to address the causes of the migration phenomenon by providing study and work opportunities in order to generate welfare in the countries of origin. This action will replace the approach based on coercive measures, such as the construction of walls. In this sense, the Chief Executive called for unity among nations.

«We need to agree because we can do many things ourselves and also if we agree to seek the cooperation of the US government to help, they are doing it, but apply more to address the causes, not only to be thinking about walls, to militarize the border but to address the needs of the people. The migrant does not go for a walk, he does it out of necessity, so why not attend to them in their communities, in their towns,» he emphasized.
