#IMSS.- The Gynecology-Obstetrics Hospital No. 3 of the National Medical Center (CMN) La Raza of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) provides specialized treatments to patients with metastatic breast cancer, whose results allow them to survive for more than 5 years, thanks to the efforts of the healthcare personnel, the support of family members and the use of the medications available at the institution.

Dr. Enrique Isay Talamantes Gómez, head of the Medical Oncology Service at the «Dr. Víctor Manuel Espinosa de los Reyes Sánchez» High Specialty Medical Unit (UMAE), pointed out that this hospital treats patients with gynecological tumors, 80 percent of whom are diagnosed with breast cancer.

He explained that the Gynecology-Obstetrics Hospital No. 3 of CMN La Raza currently has chemotherapy, surgical and radiotherapy treatments to offer a joint treatment to patients diagnosed with breast cancer.

Talamantes Gómez informed that 150 breast cancer patients are treated daily and 80 patients attend the outpatient chemotherapy treatment infusion area, which places the UMAE Hospital de Gineco-Obstetricia No. 3 of CMN La Raza as one of the hospitals with the most attention for this disease at a national level.

The Social Security specialist said that last year more than 7,000 patients received care.

«Every month we see approximately more than 150 first-time patients, who are treated with chemotherapy, surgery or innovative therapies,» he said.

He explained that breast cancer has become a chronic cancer, due to the early detection and timely attention of this disease, since in the past the life expectancy was 2 years and nowadays with the medicines it surpasses 5 years of survival.
