#GobiernoDeMéxico.- President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that next Tuesday, November 14, he will have fulfilled his commitment to inaugurate 2,700 branches of the Welfare Bank throughout the country.
«It is already the largest banking network in Mexico, banks that reach all the towns because where are the branches of commercial banks still located? In the cities. And we have to distribute the support through the banks with a card,» he stressed.

In a morning press conference, he pointed out that the Welfare Banks bring financial services to the most remote communities in the country, so that the people of Mexico have direct access to the support of the Welfare Programs.

Someone said, «What was the need for a bank or for the government to have banks? We do have a need, the people have a need; now they go with their card and get what they are entitled to,» he emphasized.

Currently, the Banco del Bienestar contributes to the fair distribution of resources, which amount to 600 million pesos this year in federal support.

In the Treasury Room of the National Palace, he recalled that the federation held a dialogue with the owners of commercial banks in order to join forces in the creation of a banking network that would prioritize the most marginalized towns in the country; however, they did not accept the proposal and that is why the Banco del Bienestar was created.

The construction of the 2,700 branches was in charge of the military engineers of the National Defense Secretariat, an agency that the President acknowledged for its contribution to the country’s development.
