IMSS improves multidisciplinary treatments to treat bone tumors in pediatric oncology patients / @zoerobledo @Tu_IMSS >>>

#IMSS.- Dr. Enrique López Aguilar, coordinator of Oncological Care, indicated that in the comprehensive census 2022-2023, 142 children were treated for bone tumors at a national level.Social Security authorities held the 131st work meeting with the mothers and fathers of children undergoing oncological treatment in the Institute’s medical units.

The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) has improved multidisciplinary treatments for the care of children and adolescents with cancer, through the implementation of better surgical techniques, prostheses, preservation of limbs under specific indications and the use of new drugs, informed institutional authorities.

During the 131st meeting of the working group for the care of children under oncology treatment at the IMSS, the coordinator of Oncology Care, Dr. Enrique López Aguilar, pointed out that in the Social Security in the comprehensive census 2022-2023, 142 minors were treated for bone tumors at a national level. «As in the case of leukemia, we want these children to also have the best care.»

In virtual session, he explained that currently the treatment includes preservation procuration with neoadjuvant QT, a method that is administered as a first step to reduce the size of the tumor before the main procedure that usually consists of surgery.

The head of the Oncology Care Coordination Department explained that within the standard cancer treatment for the management of bone tumors there is an important component that is managed under a rehabilitation and support program for the minor, with the aim of providing an integral medical service for the benefit of patients and their families.
