In Michoacán, Issste performs cataract surgeries for the benefit of 350 patients / @drpedrozenteno @ISSSTE_mx >>>

#ISSSTE.- With the purpose of improving the quality of life of beneficiaries with visual impairment, and within the framework of the national strategy to reduce the backlog in ophthalmic surgeries promoted by the General Director, Pedro Zenteno Santaella, the first stage of the Cataract Surgery Days was held at the Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de Trabajadores Estado (Issste) in Uruapan, Michoacan, the Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado (Issste) carried out the first stage of the Cataract Surgery Days at the Uruapan Hospital Clinic in Michoacan, where 200 patients were operated on in four days, out of a total of 350 to be benefited in the state.

On behalf of the Institute’s medical sub-delegate in that state, Francisco Vargas Saucedo, the head of the Medical Attention Department, Cirilo Zúñiga Magaña, thanked the head of the Institute and the medical director, Ramiro López Elizalde, for the support received to carry out these sessions in Michoacán, and informed that the first stage was successfully carried out from November 16 to 19.

He recalled that «cataracts are usually operated on first one eye and then the other,» and announced that «before the end of the year, we will be operating on the second eye.

He invited beneficiaries who need to undergo this surgery to recover their vision and who have not had the opportunity to register previously, to come to the Morelia Regional Hospital on December 2 and 3, to be part of the other 150 beneficiaries of the specialized surgical treatment. He emphasized that, in case there are more people who require the procedure, it could be opened on December 7 and 8.

At the inauguration of the first stage of the Cataract Surgical Journeys, the director of the Uruapan Hospital Clinic, Yunuén Madrigal Equihua, pointed out that the first successful cases were a 12 year old boy with a congenital condition and another 4 year old boy. She added that, in addition to people from this region, affiliates from Pátzcuaro and Apatzingán are also benefiting.

Regarding the care received, the mother of the 12-year-old patient Antonio, Griselda Mariscal, said: «I want to thank the entire national Issste, the Issste of Michoacán, for allowing my son, and the other boy who is also from my town, to undergo cataract surgery, as well as all those who are here.
