#EstadoDeVeracruz.- With an investment of 100 million pesos, Veracruz strengthens and transforms higher education; an example of this is the Teaching, Research and Services Laboratory, the vegetable greenhouse and a meteorological station inaugurated by Governor Cuitláhuac García Jiménez at the Instituto Tecnológico Superior de Huatusco (ITSH).

By providing them with the appropriate tools and spaces, students are able to respond to current challenges and link with the productive, academic and scientific sectors but, above all, be ready to enter the workplace, said the head of the Ministry of Education, Victor Emmanuel Vargas Barrientos.

The laboratory will benefit 295 coffee, avocado and piloncillo cooperatives in Huatusco, Tlaltetela, Totutla, Tenampa, Tlacotepec, Zentla, Ixhuatlán del Café, Coscomatepec, Chocamán and Calcahualco, offering bromatological and environmental studies, guaranteeing food safety and expanding commercialization, even to international markets.

To finance this space, the students presented proposals with solutions to a regional problem, endorsed by the Secretariat of Agricultural, Rural and Fishing Development, which granted them 4 million pesos, plus 2 million pesos from the institutional budget.

The greenhouse will enable training and technology transfer to 2,000 tomato, habanero chile and cucumber growers, improving yields, quality and safety through self-sustainability, optimizing water use and reducing the use of agrochemicals.

In the words of the general director, Victor Manuel Arcos Feria, the ITSH is the only one that represented Veracruz in the National Meeting of Basic Sciences and the University Applications Tournament in Ecuador, being the campus with more projects sponsored by the Veracruz Council for Scientific Research and Technological Development, for an additional 2 million pesos.

It currently provides guidance to farmers in Zongolica, Calcahualco and Alpatláhuac, works in the treatment of urban solid waste together with the Ministry of the Environment and grows 50 thousand trees per year, destined for carbon credits in agreement with the company La Laja.
