#GobiernoDeMéxico.- At the head of the morning press conference, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador recommended extending the debate in the Congress of the Union on the reduction of the work week from 48 to 40 hours and summoning all the sectors involved in the productive process.

«It is a good debate. I am going to wait to see what is resolved, what opinions there are. It is good that the debate on this is opened and then a position will be established; the legislative period is not over yet, there is still time, it is not something to be resolved on December 12, I would even respectfully propose that the 12th should not become a fatal date, that is to say, a definitive date», he pointed out.

The President stated the need to listen to the proposals of workers, businessmen, labor leaders and experts who are in favor or against the reduction of hours in the working week.

«That time be given and that everyone be invited and that we review what is happening in other countries, that is, what is happening not only in the United States, which is hourly, but in other parts, where it is a full day, how long is the workday, and that we listen more, that reasons be given. It doesn’t make you that 12 is not resolved,» he argued.

«Legislators are popular representatives and they can -it is their power- modify the laws, but in these issues, why not consult and listen to everyone?» he questioned.

In the Treasury Room of the National Palace, he respectfully invited the Legislative Branch to keep the discussion beyond the session.

«(…) Furthermore, if the session ends, the debate can be opened, even before the end of the session, the debate can be opened, the invitation is extended to everyone and then we can come back and define it», he suggested.
