#IMSS.- The Safe and Healthy Workplace Environments (ELSSA) program of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) has benefited more than 3,321,000 workers who work in 10,250 companies, with actions in the areas of safety, health and well-being at work, by contributing to the development of healthy lifestyles and early diagnosis of non-communicable diseases.

The head of the Economic Benefits and Occupational Health Unit of the IMSS, Iván Arturo Pérez Negrón, pointed out that ELSSA is the preventive program of the Social Security that was born from the indication of the President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to guarantee the health and wellbeing of all Mexicans.

He indicated that after an analysis of successful international experiences and a review of the literature to align with the International Labor Organization (ILO) in the construction of safe and healthy work environments, ELSSA was launched on May 2, 2022 at the Fundidora Park in Monterrey, Nuevo León, with the presence of business chambers, members of the H. Technical Council and representatives of international companies.

He emphasized that in order to publicize the benefits of the program, collaboration agreements have been signed with the tourism, sugarcane and construction sectors, the Association of Banks of Mexico, as well as productive activities in the IMSS representative bodies for work centers at the state level.

Mr. Pérez Negrón emphasized that information is provided regarding ELSSA, a non-punitive, non-mandatory program that provides work centers with various tools and courses to contribute free of charge and responsibly to avoid the highest percentage of accidents and occupational hazards.

He added that in the medium and long term, the companies will have a favorable impact on their finances, due to the possibility of reducing the risk premium payment, and will take advantage of the ILO award to disseminate its logo in events, congresses, workshops, promotional materials and in the next ELSSA National Award ceremony.
