Mexican hands work the pottery in the south of the State of México / @Edomex >>>

#EstadoDeMéxico.- Mexican folk art is recognized nationally and internationally for its high quality, color, tradition, creativity, diversity and the great mastery with which the artisans make it. Such is the case of the pottery made in the south of the State of Mexico, specifically in San Pedro Tecomatepec, a town that belongs to the Magical Town of Ixtapan de la Sal.

According to the registry of the Instituto de Investigación y Fomento de las Artesanías del Estado de México (IIFAEM), there are 468 master artisans dedicated to this activity, of which 288 are women and 180 are men from Ixtapan. The talent of these women and men who work with clay gives life to pieces such as pots, plates, jugs and some other crafts, whether utilitarian or ornamental.

Their elaboration process begins with the removal of the clay; then the impurities are eliminated and the clay is ground to a very fine powder, which is mixed with water to be able to mold it; afterwards, the techniques of smoothing and burnishing are used to give life to the pieces.
Once finished, they are dried in the sun and decorated with care and precision with simple and elegant designs that reflect the hands of the artisans, while the wood ovens are prepared for firing, so that the pieces have the strength, consistency and texture required.

These handicrafts are charming, besides offering utility for those who buy them, therefore, the Institute invites you to purchase them through its «Casart» Handicraft Stores, located in different parts of the entity. Purchases can also be made through digital platforms such as Mercado Libre and Amazon, as well as via WhatsApp by sending a message to 722-148-6220.
