#EstadoDeMéxico.- Through the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Attention Clinic, psychologists from the Instituto de Seguridad Social del Estado de México y Municipios (ISSEMYM), teach patients with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families, the design and development of psychoeducational skills to improve their social insertion.

The specialists emphasize the importance of evaluating the patient in a timely manner to know his or her level of autism. From this, they help these people to be independent until adulthood; to mold behaviors, skills that can develop social competences and express their feelings to improve their social relationship.

This disorder is mainly characterized by difficulties in the process of communication and interaction; it includes the adoption of certain atypical behaviors, among them: focalization, hyperactivity and intense reactions to the reception of stimuli.

Psychologists point out that it is possible to establish the autistic diagnosis during the first months of life; however, it can be observed, to a greater extent, until their school interaction, when they begin to present difficulties in learning and in the way they relate to others.
They recommend paying attention to those behaviors that stand out from normality, since they can be confused with other conditions such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

On the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day, which is commemorated every April 2, ISSEMYM specialists call on parents or caregivers to get informed in order to understand and assimilate the diagnosis.
They emphasize that a person with autism can attend school and have a functional life, this depends on the environment in which he/she develops and the IQ, in addition to developing language skills to communicate.
