Heads of Foreign Affairs and Welfare agree to strengthen Migrant Integration Centers / @aliciabarcena @SRE_mx >>>

#SRE.- The Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Alicia Bárcena Ibarra, and the Secretary of Welfare, Ariadna Montiel Reyes, reaffirmed their commitment to support the Migrant Integration Centers (CIM) during a joint visit to Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua.

There are currently three CIMs located in the north of the country: «Leona Vicario», in Ciudad Juárez; «Valentina Ramírez», in Matamoros; and «Carmen Serdán», in Tijuana. Accompanied by the three directors of the CIMs, Chancellor Bárcena and Secretary Montiel toured the facilities of the «Leona Vicario» center and spoke with the staff and beneficiaries to understand first-hand the needs and challenges they face.
During the tour, the general director of the CIMs and head of the CIM «Leona Vicario», Ana Laura Rodela Soto, explained the operation of the dormitories; the volunteer work; the teaching for students from preschool to high school; the labor linkage and, in general, the dignified treatment that migrants receive during their stay in the country.

In this regard, Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcena highlighted Mexico’s inter-institutional collaboration and comprehensive approach to migrants and refugees within the framework of the Inter-Ministerial Commission for Comprehensive Care in Migration Matters (Ciaimm).
«We seek that the spaces in Mexico where we receive migrants and refugees reflect our humanistic vision. We work in coordination to open new avenues, to create alternatives so that migrants can find a new home in Mexico».

In this sense, both secretaries announced the next session of the Ciaimm’s Working Group II, dedicated to the centers of attention to migrants, in order to present the best practices of the CIMs for the next Multiservice Centers for Inclusion and Development in the south of the country. Strategies to strengthen Mexico’s migrant care centers will be addressed and Mexico’s commitment to international cooperation in this area will be reaffirmed. In this regard, the ongoing collaboration with the agencies of the United Nations system will be highlighted.
