AMLO calls on U.S. to allocate more resources to immigration control and less to the war / @lopezobrador_ @GobiernoMX >>>

#GobiernoDeMéxico.- President Andrés Manuel López Obrador emphasized the need to provide resources to Latin American and Caribbean countries as a fundamental measure to contain migration.
However, he said, the U.S. Congress does authorize resources to the war, but not to the peoples of Latin America.

«There is a double standard, a double standard: in the United States, Congress authorizes money for war and does not allocate resources to support the poor people of Latin America and the Caribbean, and in this way confront the migratory phenomenon. We help to solve the problem as far as we can,» he explained.

«We have to address the migratory phenomenon by helping poor people in their places of origin so that no one is forced to emigrate», he reaffirmed in a morning press conference.

He highlighted that the Mexican Government, as a humanitarian matter, invests 150 million dollars in social programs in countries where migration is higher. The amount exceeds what the United States contributes.

«For us it means an investment, not an expense, of three thousand 500 million dollars to attend to the migratory phenomenon,» he pointed out.

«What do we have to look for? To help economically, socially, to resolve conflicts in order to reduce the migratory phenomenon. It is the same with regard to the problems of violence, insecurity and drug trafficking (…) I maintain that peace is the fruit of justice, that is why I insist so much on the causes», he added.

With this action, the President explained, the aim is to avoid all types of risks to which migrants in transit through Mexico are exposed.
