#EstadoDeMéxico.- The Government of the State of Mexico has procedures for modification or change of proper nouns, mainly in older adults who are registered with an abbreviation or with a name not used during their social or legal life.

Laurencia Rojas Gorostieta, 63 years old, went to the Civil Registry Office of Texcaltitlán to request a certified birth certificate and realized that the name given did not coincide with the one she identified herself with.

«Since I remember it was Laurencia Rojas, Laurencia, Laurencia, Laurencia and that’s how it was and later it came out that it was Laudencia in the book, when I wanted to get a certificate it already came out with Laudencia and that certificate was no longer useful to me. You can see that later, even for the milk card they ask for the certificate, for anything they ask for the certificate, so I wanted to have my certificate right», said Laurencia.

This situation caused her a prejudice since the rest of her documentation appears as Laurencia, in addition to the fact that the name is very special to her because it was chosen by her mother, whom she remembers with affection.

«I came to talk to the lawyer here at the Civil Registry and she told me that it was already here, that I should pick it up today, she saw it on the computer. The service is good because they do things, they do change the papers,» she said.

Like Laurencia, the persons interested in the adjustment of the proper noun must go to the Oficialía where the birth registration was registered, fill out the application with the reasons for the change, as well as attach the documents that accredit the change.

Once the request complies with the provisions of the Civil Code of the State of Mexico, it is submitted for analysis to the Examining Board, which will decide on the files received.
