CENART presents the odyssey of making theater for all, a work of inclusion / @cultura_mx >>>
#CULTURA.- The National Center for the Arts (Cenart), an institution of the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico, is hosting the show La Odisea de hacer #teatroparatodos, featuring more than 40 young actors with intellectual disabilities, accompanied by guest actors, which will be performed on Sunday, March 2, at the Raúl Flores Canelo Theater.
La Odisea de hacer #teatroparatodos is presented in the framework of the International Day of Persons with Down Syndrome, which is commemorated on March 21. It is a play based on the mythical journey of Odysseus on his way to Ithaca, written by Homer, adapted for the enjoyment of all audiences. On stage, in addition to the students, the actors Itzé Mota, Mónica Bajonero and Juan Castrejón are part of the cast.
The staging allows the participants of the Theater Workshop for People with Intellectual Disabilities, taught by Cenart’s Escena Abierta Teatro Inclusivo Association, to develop their creativity and imagination through art. It is directed by María Luisa Orla, María Eugenia López, Karla Mota and Mónica Bajonero.
The show premiered just last December at the Sergio Magaña Theater, and is in charge of the Escena Abierta company, which promotes, since its foundation in 2022, that people with disabilities can exercise their cultural rights and live a true inclusion through theater.
With this independent production, under the general coordination of Marisa Gómez, Escena Abierta Teatro Inclusivo and Cenart demonstrate their interest in offering spaces for growth, community and artistic development for a population that needs to be visualized and respected.
La Odisea de hacer #teatroparatodos will be presented on Sunday, March 2, at 6:00 pm, at the Teatro Raúl Flores Canelo. Tickets cost $150 pesos, with a 2-for-1 promotion when buying on Wednesdays through the website cenart.comprarboletos.com. For more information visit cenart.gob.mx.
