#EstadoDeMéxico.- The Secretary of Water (SAGUA) of the State of Mexico and the Autonomous Metropolitan University (UAM), signed a collaboration agreement for students to participate in the restoration project of the Lerma-Santiago river.

Pedro Moctezuma Barragán, head of the agency, said that the first stage will involve 15 students from the Lerma campus, including biologists, chemists and students from disciplines associated with water quality.

As part of the need for young people to join this effort to save their river and at the same time save lives and provide them with a healthy and pleasant environment,” he said.

He detailed that they will also be working in a coordinated manner with the Inter-American Institute of Water Technologies and Sciences, which he said are pioneers at a national level in the treatment of waste water through microbubbles. “UAM provides knowledge on the rescue and management of wetlands,” he said.

With the agreement, it will be possible to make use of scientific information, provide social services of the university students at the Water Secretariat, organize programs, seminars and dissemination for both institutions, as well as to manage research and technological projects to guarantee access to the vital liquid and contribute to the sanitation of the basins most affected by pollution in the country and the territory of the state of Michoacán.

Secretary Pedro Moctezuma Barragán indicated that this collaboration is part of the 2023-2029 water plan to be presented in the next few days and that the project will take at least 15 years to complete.
