Geopolitical tension increases military spending, affects development aid: Undersecretary Enrique Ochoa / @SRE_mx >>>

#SRE.- It is worrying that geopolitical tensions are leading to an increase in military spending, which has led some developed countries to announce a reduction in their official development aid, said the Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Enrique Ochoa, during his participation in New York at the third Meeting of the Parties to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

He highlighted that within the framework of the last G-20 Summit, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo proposed allocating 1 percent of military spending to finance projects to address climate change and in favor of sustainable development.

Participating on behalf of Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente, Undersecretary Ochoa said that this is based on the new model we have built in Mexico, Mexican humanism, based on the principles of community development and shared prosperity, promoting inclusion, equality and social justice.

He emphasized that humanity requires resources for development, not for war and destruction.

She also stressed that Mexico is a country with a feminist foreign policy and has therefore promoted specific gender issues within the framework of the NPT. In this context, she called on all countries not to allow any kind of regression on gender issues, especially in the face of a wave of policies that have been witnessed in the United Nations.
