First Lego Challenge “Submerged” Robotics Competition kicks off in the State of Mexico; 1,500 students from public schools will participate >>>

#EstadoDeMéxico.- In order to bring children and youth closer to science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics, the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (SECTI) organized the State Robotics Competition of the State of Mexico, First Lego Challenge “Submerged”, in which 150 robotics clubs made up of 1,500 students from the State of Mexico will participate.

The students are from 4th, 5th and 6th grades of elementary and high school from public schools in 89 municipalities, who seek to move on to the national phase of this program, which is carried out in coordination with the RobotiX Mexico Foundation and the Mexiquense Council of Science and Technology (Comecyt).

Miguel Ángel Hernández Espejel, Secretary of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (SECTI), indicated that this contest responds to the objective of Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez to bring girls, boys and young people closer to technology and innovation, but also to generate a social impact in the communities.

“The theme of this season, invites us to immerse ourselves and reflect on how we can contribute to the health of our oceans, thus strengthening their sense of responsibility and commitment to the planet,” said the head of the SECTI.

He emphasized that the State Robotics Competition strengthens the presence of science and technology in indigenous peoples, migrant areas and in remote areas of the State of Mexico where there was no access to these programs.

The contest will be held in three regions, the Central-South, which takes place this March 5; on March 10 in the North region, and on March 19 in the Valley of Mexico region.

He emphasized the participation of women, with 767 girls and 159 female teachers, which reflects that in the State of Mexico gender gaps are closing, by demonstrating that robotics, science and technology are fields for them to fully develop.
