An Intercultural Perspective Action Protocol has been created for public defenders in the State of Mexico / @Edomex >>>

#EstadoDeMéxico.- The Legal Counsel of the State of Mexico developed the «Protocol for Action with an Intercultural Perspective for Public Defenders,» who will have interpreters and translators in the indigenous languages of Mazahua, Otomi, Nahua, Matlatzinca, and Tlahuica.

The head of the office, Jesús George Zamora, explained that this instrument represents a profound transformation in the institutions, as it guarantees the human rights of indigenous people by incorporating their worldview, languages, legal traditions, and culture as guiding principles for institutional action.

«It will be a living document that will evolve based on community input, because justice in the State of Mexico must speak all languages, understand all contexts, and embrace all identities. We reaffirm our purpose: to consolidate a close, empathetic, and effective Public Defender’s Office; «One that not only reaches all communities, but also speaks their language, understands their worldview, and breaks down the historical barriers that have limited equal access to rights,» he stated.

Agreement Signed
During the event held at the Mazahua Ceremonial Center in San Felipe del Progreso, a collaboration agreement was signed between the Public Defender’s Institute (IDP) and the city council of San Felipe del Progreso to launch the Traveling Public Defender’s Days, which bring legal services directly and free of charge to Indigenous communities in the State of Mexico.

In this regard, the institute’s general director, Alberto Cervantes Juárez, emphasized that this traveling model strengthens the protection of the heritage, diversity, freedom, and free development of Indigenous peoples.

For his part, Julián Martínez Rocha, Mazahua representative of San Felipe del Progreso, acknowledged that these actions represent a historic advance, as they eliminate the barriers to access to justice and the inequalities that have historically affected these indigenous communities.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of San Felipe del Progreso, Jaime Torres Marín, acknowledged the support of the State of Mexico government through the State Council for the Integral Development of Indigenous Peoples of the State of Mexico (CEDIPIEM).
