IMSS strengthens medical care and increases infrastructure capacity in Baja California Sur: Zoé Robledo / @zoerobledo @Tu_IMSS >>>

#IMSS.- The Director General of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), Zoé Robledo, highlighted progress in healthcare in Baja California Sur. During his tenure at the helm of the institution, installed capacity and medical staff have increased, allowing it to serve 11 million additional beneficiaries since 2018.

During the 2024-2025 Activity Report by the head of the Decentralized Administrative Operations Body (OOAD) of the IMSS in Baja California Sur, Dr. Juan Gilberto Pérez Soltero, which was attended by Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío, the Director General emphasized that the number of beneficiaries in the state increased from 491,000 in 2018 to 558,000 in 2023, a growth of 67,000 people.

She emphasized that the base salary for contributions in the region increased from 320 pesos per day in 2018 to 600 pesos per day in 2023, which has facilitated new investments in medical infrastructure. Additionally, among the notable projects, the restoration of Family Medicine Unit (UMF) No. 40 and the construction of the 260-bed Regional General Hospital (HGR) in Los Cabos are being carried out by the Ministry of National Defense (Defense).

Zoé Robledo highlighted the importance of the collaboration with Governor Víctor Castro and the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, who have supported these efforts to strengthen the healthcare system in Baja California Sur. The construction of the hospital in Los Cabos promises to be a similar success to the Tlapa hospital in Guerrero, built with funds from the sale of the presidential plane.

She mentioned that the increase in beneficiaries is due, in part, to new forms of incorporation into the IMSS, such as the inclusion of independent workers. In Baja California Sur, this scheme has allowed nearly 400,000 people nationwide to obtain insurance, contributing to the growth of the number of beneficiaries.

The Director General of Social Security explained that in the March draft in Mexico City, 131 new specialists from various areas were hired to strengthen services in the state. Likewise, the IMSS has followed the President’s instructions to reform primary care by implementing family medicine plus units with services such as CT scans and hemodialysis, such as the one in Loreto.
