#Economy.- As part of the effort to consolidate Mexico as a key player in the global semiconductor industry, Secretary of Economy Marcelo Ebrard chaired the Follow-up Meeting of the Semiconductor Master Plan 2024-2030 to evaluate the initiative’s progress and strengthen cooperation with strategic stakeholders.

During the meeting, the progress achieved was presented in detail. According to the Master Plan, 16 of the 30 goals proposed last October have been achieved. The importance of the Semiconductor Cooperation Forum was emphasized, whose continuity will be key to coordinating strategies between the public and private sectors. Measures to optimize import permits, tax refunds, and strengthening the supply chain were also discussed.

The Mexico Plan already reflects the positive impacts of this initiative, demonstrating the country’s commitment to integrating innovative solutions. The U.S. Embassy expressed its interest in resuming the project’s momentum, reaffirming its willingness to meet the stated objectives. Furthermore, Mexico’s continued interest in promoting investment in the industry and creating favorable conditions for its development was reaffirmed.

During the meeting, key topics such as talent and technical training were addressed, and the need to share efforts to structure the sector’s growth was highlighted. A proposal was made to establish a specific chapter for semiconductors within the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) with the aim of attracting investment from large production centers.

Companies such as Cisco, Foxconn, Skyworks, Qualcomm, IBM, along with CANIETI and CCE, have demonstrated their commitment to this initiative, participating in the development of strategies aimed at strengthening local suppliers and the high-value semiconductor chain. Diego Flores Jiménez, head of the Electronic and Digital Industry Sector, was present at the event.
