The State Government of Mexico performs more than 8,200 no-scalpel vasectomies to promote family planning / @Edomex >>>

The State of Mexico Health Secretariat has consolidated no-scalpel vasectomy as a safe, free, and highly effective family planning option. In 2024, 5,749 procedures of this type were performed, and so far in 2025, the total has reached 2,461.

This was stated by professionals from the State of Mexico Health Institute (ISEM) during a meeting with personnel certified in this procedure. The statewide situation regarding this procedure was evaluated; the main challenges were identified and goals for the remainder of the year were reviewed. It was also highlighted that ISEM has 43 physicians certified in this technique throughout the state.

The surgery is painless for the patient, takes between 25 and 30 minutes, and is 99.9 percent effective in preventing pregnancy. However, it is recommended to continue using a condom for three months after the vasectomy or until a fertility test has been performed after 25 ejaculations.

This procedure is performed free of charge at ISEM health centers. Patients must arrive accompanied, wearing comfortable clothing, a shaved pelvic area, and tight-fitting underwear. After the procedure, it is recommended to avoid physical exertion for the first 48 hours.

Health professionals highlighted the growing interest among men in joining this public health policy, which represents a cultural shift in favor of gender equality.

A single vasectomy can prevent, on average, up to three pregnancies, which directly impacts the well-being of families and the overall health of the population.

As part of the recognition of institutional efforts, two exemplary medical units were awarded productivity distinctions: CEAPS Temamatla, with 1,144 procedures performed, and the Toluca Urban Health Center, with 981 interventions, both during 2024.

With actions like this, the Government of the State of Mexico, led by Professor Delfina Gómez Álvarez, reaffirms its commitment to prevention, social justice, and universal access to health services.
