#ISSSTE.- The Director General of the Institute of Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE), Martí Batres Guadarrama, highlighted during President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s morning press conference, «The People’s Morning Press Conference,» the implementation of surgical sessions in the agency’s units throughout the country, as part of the implementation of the «Zero Backlog» Strategy.

During his address, the Director General of ISSSTE explained that these procedures bring together specialists from various entities and are performed in addition to routine surgeries in medical units, with the goal of reducing wait times and benefiting beneficiaries.

“These procedures are performed by teams of five to 10 surgeons; in many cases, simultaneously, occupying several hospital operating rooms. Surgeons are transferred from various regions of the country to a single region to work full, extensive, intensive shifts and perform many surgical interventions in a very short period of time. (…) They are performed in addition to or in addition to the surgical work in our hospitals or medical units that have operating rooms,” he said.

At the National Palace, Martí Batres shared that three national campaigns have been implemented, from the start of the current administration in October 2024 until May of this year.

The most notable is the National Cataract Surgery Campaign, with 2,653 intraocular lens placement procedures in 19 medical units in 17 states, including Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Aguascalientes, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Mexico City, Guanajuato, Michoacán, Campeche, Yucatán, Puebla, and the State of Mexico.

«Baja California stands out here, where 485 surgeries and interventions were performed, practically eliminating the entire backlog of these types of surgeries,» he indicated.
