#SECTUR.- The Secretary of Tourism of the Mexican Government, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, and the Director General of the National Institute for Adult Education (INEA), Armando Contreras Castillo, signed a general collaboration agreement to address the educational gap in tourism areas, with a focus on tourism service providers and their families.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism emphasized that, with this joint effort, tourism service providers will be given the opportunity to complete their primary and secondary education. This commitment seeks to contribute to the professionalization of the sector and build a tourism industry that not only generates wealth, but also distributes it equitably and fosters development opportunities.
“The agreement we signed today between the Ministry of Tourism and INEA represents more than an institutional act: it is an affirmation of social justice and a step toward the educational inclusion of those who make Mexico a tourism powerhouse,” she declared.
Rodríguez Zamora emphasized that continuing education, especially for adults, is essential to strengthening the social fabric of tourism communities, increasing their competitiveness, and recognizing the dignity of every employee in the sector.
He explained that this agreement seeks, through the creation of a working team responsible for monitoring actions and exchanging information, to establish a strategy to strengthen literacy processes, as well as primary and secondary education.
He specified that this effort will contribute to strengthening the current administration’s implementation strategy for community tourism centers, a model that seeks to incorporate the participation of local communities in the management of tourism activities, products, and services, generating Shared Prosperity for all members of the multiplying sector.
For his part, Armando Contreras Castillo, Director General of INEA, stated: «This agreement seeks to combat the educational gap in tourist areas, as well as among tourism service providers. In this case, we propose to the Institute of Tourism Competitiveness, the National Fund for Tourism Development, and the Maya Train and its infrastructure to ensure that not a single illiterate person remains in the 177 Magical Towns.»
