#IMSS.- For the care of patients with kidney stones, a disease characterized by the formation of stones in the urinary tract, the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) offers therapies ranging from medical surveillance to endourological surgery, a minimally invasive procedure that allows for a prompt recovery.
Dr. Fernando González Meza García, head of the Urology Department at Dr. Carlos MacGregor Sánchez Navarro Regional General Hospital No. 1, emphasized that for the treatment of this condition, the Institute also offers laser, pneumatic, and percutaneous surgeries, as well as the participation of nephrology and endocrinology professionals when it is necessary to understand the causes of kidney stones.
He explained that this chronic disease, also known as kidney stones, is characterized by the formation of small stones in the kidneys and bladder; when they leave the body, they are very uncomfortable.
When the condition is detected with the family doctor, he noted, the patient is referred to a urology department at the IMSS. A CT scan determines the appropriate treatment.
He stated that at Dr. Carlos MacGregor Sánchez Navarro, Regional General Hospital No. 1, they use a procedure known as endourology to treat kidney stones, a minimally invasive surgical technique that facilitates a prompt recovery.
Although the appearance of kidney stones can be asymptomatic, hereditary factors are the primary cause of their formation, as are certain diseases, alterations in the absorption and excretion of calcium in the blood, hormonal disorders, and even specific medications, among other causes.
The head of the Urology Department at Regional General Hospital No. 1 explained that when the disease is not treated promptly, complications such as urinary tract infections, kidney abscesses, and even kidney loss can occur.
For this reason, he explained that if a patient has kidney stones, it is important to monitor them to avoid kidney colic, infection, or organ loss. Likewise, do not overindulge in foods high in calcium, carbonated beverages, and stay well hydrated with plain water.
