Mexico is becoming more technological: Historic investment for irrigation districts and guaranteeing water as a right / @Claudiashein @GobiernoMX >>>

#FederalGovernment, #Mexico.– The Mexican government, through the National Water Commission (Conagua), announced that as part of Mexico se Tecnifica, the only program in the world that, with a historic investment of more than 60 billion pesos (mdp), aims to ensure efficient water use in agriculture for human consumption through the modernization of Irrigation Districts in different parts of the country. Six of these are already underway and 10 are currently being tendered.

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo emphasized that Mexico se Tecnifica is a historic and unprecedented program implemented in agreement with farmers and aims to recover three times the amount of water consumed annually in Mexico City and distribute it in urban areas to guarantee access to water as a right.

“It’s a very important program, and it’s been implemented in collaboration with farmers and irrigation districts; more than 60 billion pesos across the government to recover—let’s put it this way—three times what is consumed in a year in Mexico City, so it can be distributed to urban areas so that all Mexicans can have access to water,” he stated during the morning press conference, “Las mañaneras del pueblo” (The People’s Morning Conferences).

Conagua’s Director General, Efraín Morales López, noted that the National Irrigation Technology Program: México se Tecnifica (Mexico Gets Technified), aims to upgrade more than 200,000 hectares to produce more food with less water and recover approximately 2.8 billion cubic meters (m3) of water for human consumption.
