#MinistryOfHealth, #Mexico.– The Ismael Cosío Villegas National Institute of Respiratory Diseases (INER) signed a collaboration agreement with AstraZeneca to implement advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) software in its diagnostic imaging processes to detect lung cancer in the early stages, considered the leading cause of death from malignant tumors worldwide.
The agreement was signed by the Director General of INER, Carmen Margarita Hernández Cárdenas, and the President and CEO of AstraZeneca Mexico, Julio Alberto Ordaz López. During the ceremony, it was emphasized that the incorporation of this technology represents a crucial step in medical innovation at the national level.
In her speech, the Director General of INER, Carmen Margarita Hernández Cárdenas, highlighted the collaboration between a highly specialized public institution like INER and a global company like AstraZeneca, who are joining forces to build safer, more efficient, and more far-reaching solutions for patients, not only in the field of lung cancer, but also in the comprehensive diagnosis of respiratory diseases.
“When analyzing an image, the findings can go beyond cancer; they can reveal other pathologies that also require timely attention. Therefore, the implementation of this technology will benefit not only the oncology departments, but all clinical areas of the institute,” he noted.
The head of the INER Oncology Service, Jorge Arturo Alatorre Alexander, explained that this project involves the integration of Qure AI software, an internationally validated tool that will assist physicians in interpreting X-rays and CT scans, facilitating the early identification of lung nodules and other alterations associated with pathologies such as lung cancer and tuberculosis.
