#FederalGovernment, #Mexico.- The President, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, has confirmed the imminent completion of the rail infrastructure designed to link the nation’s capital with the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) and the city of Pachuca. As announced, the construction of the Mexico City-AIFA section is set to conclude this year, paving the way for the essential testing phase prior to its official operation. Concurrently, the passenger train extension connecting the AIFA to Pachuca is showing significant progress, currently standing at a 9.3 per cent completion rate.
During a site visit, the Head of the Federal Executive emphasised the successful timeline, stating: “The Mexico City-Felipe Ángeles International Airport train is now finishing its construction, its civil and electromechanical work, this year and the testing period is being done so that it can be functional.” She further commended the teams responsible, highlighting their valuable contribution and noting that it is “a source of pride for our country” to have the capability and good work of the Felipe Ángeles Engineers Group military personnel. The President stressed that even with the need for assistance in national emergencies, “work on the strategic projects we have set out is not ceasing.”
General Gustavo Ricardo Vallejo Suárez, Commander of the Felipe Ángeles Engineers Group, provided an operational update, detailing the deployment across the five construction fronts of the project, which ensures development without setbacks. The military engineering team is steadily advancing with the construction of boxes, the lowering of materials, the exploitation of quarries, and the laying of tracks. This extensive activity aims to finalise a rail line that will not only connect Mexico City to the AIFA but will also provide a direct link to Pachuca, the capital of Hidalgo.
Meanwhile, Andrés Lajous Loaeza, head of the Rail Transport Regulatory Agency, elaborated on the social and logistical benefits of the project, which is designed to meet an estimated daily demand of 107,000 passengers. This new service will directly benefit some 15,000 families in the Pachuca metropolitan area by providing optimised journey times: the trip from Buenavista to Pachuca is expected to take one hour and 15 minutes, while travel to Jagüey de Téllez will take one hour, and the journey to Tizayuca will be completed in approximately 50 minutes.
