Mexican Government Reports Historic Drop in Homicides / @Claudiashein @GobiernoMX
#FederalGovernment, #Mexico.- The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, announced a significant drop of 37 per cent in the daily average of intentional homicides recorded between September 2024 and October 2025 during her morning press conference, «Las mañaneras del pueblo». This decrease signifies an average reduction of 32 daily victims, falling from 86.9 to 54.5, which the President claimed demonstrates an effective shift in the national security strategy implemented by her new administration. The core of this strategy rests upon two fundamental pillars: tackling «social causes» of crime and the rigorous implementation of a «Zero Impunity» policy against organised crime groups.
The comprehensive Security Strategy is backed by enhanced intelligence, investigation, and coordination across security forces, resulting in the apprehension of 37,000 «generators of violence» nationwide during the government’s initial 13 months. Sheinbaum Pardo contrasted this success with historical spikes, noting a 148 per cent increase in homicides from 2006 to 2012, and a further 42 per cent increase from 2012 to 2018, underscoring how the current «Fourth Transformation» has radically changed tactics by prioritising welfare and social justice. The «Attention to Causes» element involves expanding social programmes, education, culture, and sports in previously neglected municipalities.
Marcela Figueroa Franco, Head of the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, corroborated the positive trend, detailing that the national daily average of intentional homicides has decreased by 34 per cent between 2018 and the first ten months of 2025, from 100.5 to 66.1 victims. She reported that from January to October 2025, seven states accounted for 51 per cent of all cases: Guanajuato, Chihuahua, Baja California, Sinaloa, State of Mexico, Guerrero, and Michoacán. Significant reductions in the daily average of homicides were highlighted between September 2024 and October 2025 in key states, including a 45 per cent drop in Baja California, a 42 per cent decrease in the State of Mexico, and a massive 75 per cent reduction in Nuevo León.
Complementing this data, the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, presented the operational outcomes of the security forces’ direct action, reporting that from October 1st, 2024, to October 31st, 2025, a total of 37,012 individuals were arrested for high-impact crimes. Operations also led to the seizure of 18,981 firearms, the confiscation of nearly 300 tonnes of drugs (including four million fentanyl pills), and the dismantling of 1,614 clandestine laboratories and operational hubs. These robust «Zero Impunity» operations have played a crucial role, contributing significantly to a 46 per cent reduction in the daily average of high-impact crimes across the country since 2018.
