Hospital de la Mujer Reaffirms Commitment to Public Health with Vaccination and Breastfeeding Programmes / @SSalud_mx
#MinistryOfHealth, #Mexico.– The Hospital de la Mujer has reaffirmed its comprehensive commitment to public health and prevention by actively promoting vaccination and breastfeeding as essential pillars for building a stronger society with greater opportunities for wellbeing. During the recent symposium “Immunisations in Pregnancy”, the director of the institution, Daniel Oswaldo Gómez Rabadán, emphasised that every action is designed to ensure timely and high-quality care for women and newborns. The hospital is «convinced that investing in vaccination and promoting breastfeeding is investing in a healthier future», a strategy fully aligned with the National Medical Care Protocols (PRONAM) of the Ministry of Health for care during pregnancy and the first thousand days of life.
In this context, the leader of the Health Innovation and Research Network of CCINSHAE, Miguel Ángel García Salcido, highlighted the critical importance of promoting health before birth, noting that vaccination is historically the measure that «has saved the most lives worldwide». In his lecture “The Life-Course Perspective on Vaccination”, he explained that this approach, originating from the World Health Organization (WHO), seeks to coordinate interventions across all life stages, under the principle that «what happens in the earliest stage of life influences childhood and adult health».
García Salcido further emphasised that by protecting children from gestation through vaccination during pregnancy, their capacity to respond to infections is strengthened, enhancing overall health; these measures represent «getting ahead of vaccine-preventable diseases». Mexico maintains a complete age-based immunisation schedule, including essential vaccines such as BCG and Hexavalent in childhood, a Human Papillomavirus booster for adolescents, and, for pregnant women, doses against tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis (whooping cough).
The Hospital de la Mujer, working in coordination with national experts, solidifies its role as a key institution in implementing preventive strategies with a life-course perspective. This proactive and scientific approach, focused on protection from gestation, ensures not only comprehensive care for women and newborns but also lays the foundations for future generations with improved quality of life and a stronger public health system.
