President rules out recession; projects 5% annual growth through 2024

#MexicoCity. – President Andrés Manuel López Obrador ruled out that there is a recession in Mexico and projected the growth figure for this year:

«Five percent, to make them angry, because experts and specialists are giving us, at most, 2.5, and I propose five. And once and for all I tell them, five for the 23rd and five for the 24th, and my ideal is that despite the pandemic, we obtain an annual average of more than two percent during the six-year term».

He explained that our country is not in recession because during 2021 the estimated growth was five percent despite the emergence of the omicron variant.

«A government like ours has to think about growth, but also about welfare, because when we talk about growth it is accumulation of wealth, but not necessarily distribution of wealth. It’s more money, but for whose benefit?»
