Mexico is prepared to avoid cost increases in electric energy: President AMLO

#MexicoCity. – «We are not in favor of war,» affirmed President Andrés Manuel López Obrador when expressing confidence that the situation in Ukraine will soon be normalized, after pointing out that our country will continue to promote dialogue, that there will be no invasion or use of force.

«We do not want war anywhere, we do not want people to suffer, we do not want the civilian population to be affected, we do not want warlike confrontation. That is our position.»

Regarding the economic effects generated by the situation in Ukraine, he pointed out:

«We have been prepared for some time so that, if the price of gas, the import, increases a lot, we can start up all the electric power generation plants that do not require gas to avoid the increase in the costs of electric power.»

He informed the population that the plan consists, among other measures, in activating the hydroelectric plants to their maximum capacity so that there will be no blackouts and tariffs will not increase, and added that the gasoline subsidy is maintained so as not to pass on the cost to consumers, even if the price of crude oil or imported gasoline increases.
