#SE.- The Government of Mexico, through the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS) and the Ministry of Economy, has successfully concluded the fourth request for review notified on June 6 by the Government of the United States under the Labor Rapid Response Mechanism (MLRR) of the Mexico-United States-Canada Agreement (T-MEC).

In a responsible and committed manner with the rights of workers, Mexico has once again managed to guarantee in the short term, compliance with the labor obligations contained in the T-MEC, at the Teksid Hierro de México S.A. de C.V. (Teksid) facility in Frontera, Coahuila, thus ensuring the rights of free association and effective collective bargaining.

The Government of Mexico recognizes the union and the company that reached an agreement on July 11, in accordance with Mexican labor legislation, giving priority to social dialogue and conciliation.

The result achieved guarantees:

  • The protection of workers’ rights to decide which union best represents their interests;
  • Teksid’s recognition of the Union holding the only valid collective bargaining agreement before the registration authority -the Federal Center for Labor Conciliation and Registration-;
  • The access of the Union holder of the contract to the facility and the allocation of office space;
  • The reinstatement of 36 workers with their respective payment of 100% of their back wages; and
  • Payment of union dues owed.
