#SICT.- Emphasizing the importance of preserving the country’s highway network, given its contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of between 5 and 15 percent, Jorge Nuño Lara, Head of the Office of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), said that by 2023 the budget for preservation will not fall with respect to 2022, so there will be more than 9.5 billion pesos for federal highways and more than 7 billion pesos for preservation contracts.

«In order to improve toll-free federal highways, the Undersecretary of Infrastructure has decided to move from reactive to preventive and predictive maintenance,» he said at the opening of the VII International Seminar on Asphalt/Road Infrastructure Maintenance, organized in León, Guanajuato, as part of the 25th anniversary of the Mexican Asphalt Association, A.C. (AMAAC).

Nuño Lara said that roads are fundamental for the success of all other sectors of the economy, since, according to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), road assets are worth one trillion 375 billion pesos.
