#GobiernoDeMéxico.- President Andrés Manuel López Obrador stated the need to analyze alternatives to replace fentanyl for medical purposes with other sedatives, which will allow prohibiting its importation into the country.

«Although we have control, -which we did not have before over the entry of fentanyl for medical uses- in any case, since it is prohibited there would no longer be any possibility that it could be imported and we substitute it with other analgesics. Let’s see if this is viable with the commitment that everything that enters illegally and through contraband will continue to be combated», he explained.

In a morning press conference, the President called on specialists to join in this call that will benefit the people of Mexico in terms of health and safety. He made a commitment to report on the results of this study.

The proposal, he said, could be replicated in the United States with the purpose of stopping the trafficking of this highly addictive narcotic, used by organized crime to hook young people.
