#SECTUR.- Upon presenting his most recent book, «Asociación Mexicana de Hoteles y Moteles a 100 años de su fundación 1922-2022», the Minister of Tourism (SECTUR) explained to the representatives of these business chambers the evolution of the hotel industry in the country and its importance in Mexico’s tourism development.

Before the presidents of the CCE, Francisco Cervantes Díaz; of the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco Servytur), Héctor Tejada Shaar; and of the Mexico City Chamber of Commerce (Canaco CDMX), José de Jesús Rodríguez Cárdenas, he pointed out that tourism is the tool and solution to combat poverty and generate development.

Under this premise, Torruco Marqués pointed out that, in the current administration, headed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, more than a change of government, it was a change of regime in which foreign exchange and per capita spending were prioritized over the arrival of international tourists, thus bringing wellbeing to the marginalized areas surrounding tourist zones.

He acknowledged that, with the pandemic in 2020, some projects were slowed down, however, measures were taken such as the non-restriction of international flights, the development of biosanitary protocols and the acquisition of vaccines, all this without indebtedness, which allowed Mexico to only fall 46% in tourism, when the world contraction was 73% and in the great powers up to 88%.
