Early education is key to prevent burn accidents in children and adolescents: IMSS / @zoerobledo @Tu_IMSS >>>

#IMSS.- In the framework of the National Day for the Prevention of Burns in Children and Adolescents, which is commemorated on April 27, Social Security highlighted the treatments it provides in its three levels of service.

To prevent burns in minors it is important to educate children and adolescents on the subject, since in some cases the accidents involve flames due to experiments and even challenges on the Internet, recommended specialists from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).

Dr. Claudia Berenice Hernandez Valverde, reconstructive plastic surgeon attached to the Burn Unit of the Traumatology and Orthopedics Hospital «Dr. Victorio de la Fuente Narvaez», also recommended being careful with the handling of hot liquids, containers and irons, covering electrical outlets, keeping chemicals and dangerous substances under lock and key.

Within the framework of the National Day for the Prevention of Burns in Children and Adolescents, which is commemorated on April 27, he pointed out that Social Security provides treatment for this type of injury at its three levels of service. In the Family Medicine Units, light wounds or sun injuries that do not require further treatment and will not cause long-term damage are treated.

He pointed out that at the second level, first and second degree burns of superficial and extensive form are treated, respectively, while at the third level, treatment is offered to cases of severe burns, with lesions in areas such as the face, hands, neck, genitals and joints that may result in serious damage for a long period of time.

«There is also attention to burns that are less severe and are treated in the general area hospitals, and those that are very simple and easy to treat, in the Family Medicine Units by means of cures», he commented.
