The municipality of Tecámac celebrates its Atrial Cross, a religious symbol of respect for its indigenous past / @MarielaGtzEsc @MejorTecamac >>>

#Tecámac, #Edoméx.- This Wednesday, May 3, the Day of the Holy Cross is the patron saint’s day of the municipal capital of Tecámac, known as Tecámac Centro or Santa Cruz Tecámac.

This has given way to the celebration of the Regional Fair of Tecámac, the most important sporting, cultural, commercial and entertainment event in the northern part of the State of Mexico.

However, its transcendence goes beyond the festivity, it represents the triumph of the recognition of the rights of the native peoples through the so-called Atrial Cross, which is venerated on these dates. It recalls their past and indigenous roots as native people.

After the construction of the majestic convent of Acolman, the Augustinians proceeded to evangelize all the surrounding towns, and Tecámac was granted the quality of religious head, that is to say, it was founded as a parish.

This classification of Catholicism is concretized with the construction of the so-called Atrial Cross, which was also used by the Spanish Crown to define the «Fundo Legal», which implied the concession of land for the settlement of the indigenous population.

In fact, it can be said that this juridical figure and the Atrial Cross went hand in hand for the protection of the indigenous people, and to avoid the outrages of the potentates and landowners.
